The Come Back Alive Foundation has purchased 10 PD-2 unmanned aerial vehicles with mobile ground stations for Ukraine with a total value of approximately USD 8.5 million. The systems are to be in the hands of experienced operators. We explain what PD-2 is and what it's possible to do.The Come Back Alive Foundation announced the purchase via Facebook. The published information shows that Ukraine will receive 10 PD-2 unmanned aerial vehicles, i.e. 20 PD-2 unmanned aerial vehicles and 10 mobile ground stations, transformed into mobile command posts for controlling drones. The PD-2 or PD-1 drone was most likely used during the attack on the Russian oil refinery in Novoshakhtinsk, which we wrote about here. The PD-2 is a drone produced by the Ukrainian company UkrSpecSystems. It is 2.85 meters long, over one meter high and has a wingspan of about 5 meters. Its average air endurance is 10 hours. The drone can fly at a maximum altitude of 5,000 m, and its range is up to 1,100 km.It works in temperatures from -25 ° C to + 50 ° C in various weather conditions, including fog and rain. The PD-2 can be changed from fixed wing configuration to VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) in just a few moments, thanks to which the drone has the possibility of vertical take-off and vertical landing.Mounted under the wings and fuselage, removable modules are used to carry and deliver loads. The PD-2 can "hover" over the target, which allows for precise dropping of, for example, transferred weapons. The standard equipment of the unmanned aerial vehicle includes the USG-212 EO / IR gimbal or the USG-211 EO gimbal. Each of them provides, among othersEO / IR Full HD imaging systems with 30x optical zoom, digital image stabilization, recording and storage of materials, and the ability to track targets. In addition, the device has navigation lights and an ADS-B transponder. It also has a low radar and acoustic signature, making it difficult to track and detect.Optionally, it can be fitted with LiDAR sensors and scanners or a synthetic aperture radar (SAR).
